Limitless – Films 35 – 39

My cricket watching has slowed down my film watching and kept me too occupied to write so here I am in catch up!

Film 35 – Their Finest – 12A – 117 Minutes

Director – Lone Scherfig

Main Cast

  • Gemma Arterton
  • Sam Claflin
  • Bill Nighy
  • Jack Huston
  • Paul Ritter
  • Rachel Stirling
  • Richard E Grant

This one left me with a strange feeling, it was entertaining to watch.  Th stale of a young Welsh girl with a flair for writing who becomes a screen writer during the war.  It’s a love story/Comedy/Drama with a bit of an unnecessary twist for me.  Gemma Arterton and Bill Nighy are both very good, with Nighy bringing the humour.

Film 36 – A Dog’s Purpose – PG – 100 Minutes

Director – Lasse Hallstrom

Main Cast

  • Josh Gad
  • Dennis Quaid
  • Peggy Lipton
  • Bryce Gheisar
  • K.J. Apa

Well, this one made me shed bucket fulls of tears!  A tale of a dog and his lives, there are several, we see a dog, loved, mistreated and finding his way back to his very first owner. It’s a pointless, lovely, feel good film!

Film 37 – King Arthur, The Legend of the Sword – 12A – 126 Minutes

Director – Guy Ritchie

Main Cast

  • Charlie Hunnam
  • Astrid Berges-Frisbey
  • Jude Law
  • Djimon Hounsou
  • Eric Bana
  • Aiden Gillen
  • Cameo part – David Beckham

Bearing in mind the director of this film, it takes some time to accept King Arthur as a cockney geezer, but it’s all good.  I loved this film, and don’t feel the need to be disparaging about David Beckham’s small appearance, he was fine!  This is a larger than life, highly entertaining film, one I may well need to own on DVD to watch again!

Film 38 – Hampstead – 12A – 112 Minutes

Director – Joel Hopkins

Main Cast

  • James Norton
  • Diane Keaton
  • Brendan Gleeson
  • Simon Callow
  • Lesley Manville
  • Hugh Skinner
  • Jason Watkins

An utterly delightful film!  I saw this one in Cardiff Bay with my friend Monica.  Based on a true story of a man who made his home on Hampstead Heath, this is a gentle love story with some added humour.  It made me laugh, it made me cry, this is definitely one to watch!

Film 39 – Spider-Man, Homecoming – 12A – 133 Minutes

Director Jon Watts

Main Cast

  • Tom Holland
  • Michael Keaton
  • Robert Downey Jr
  • Marisa Tomei
  • Jon Favreau

I’m writing this having watched Spider-Man this afternoon and this confirmed I do love a Marvel Movie!  This is quite hard to understand because it seems to ignore all previous Spider-Man films, but, as realistic as any comic book movie can be I got the reasoning behind the film.  As you’d expect with a Marvel film, it’s crazy, funny and larger than life.  A must see!
