I seem to have skipped a film here, but that would be because I made a schoolgirl error and ended up in the wrong screen on my last visit,  which meant I watched Hidden Figures for the 3rd time, rather than Moonlight!  Amazingly I enjoyed it just as much as the first 2!

On to the film in hand – I think Wow would be the right word for this one!  I was incredibly ignorant of the events surrounding the ending of the Empire’s involvement in India and in all honesty the reasons why Lord Mountbatten was held in such high regard.  This film tells the story of his time in India and the somewhat terrible events surrounding the birth of Pakistan and an independent India.  The tale is told with sensitivity and reality, it doesn’t hold back, I cried bucket fulls and was deeply moved.  It’s left me wanting to know a lot more about 1947 and the events in India!

Did I cry?  Loads, it’s a no mascara film!

Will you cry?  I think so

Worth watching in the cinema?  Absolutely, the wonder of the Viceroy’s House is well worth the big screen
